10 Things To Do Before Quitting WoW (Actually, 7)

May 16th, 2008 elitistjerks.com

DeeNogger:

1) Be an Asshole:

The most important, and the by far the easiest, activity to check off your list before logging out that last time is to be a complete and uncensored asshole. It doesnt take much looking to notice that interaction between members of the WoW community has more in common with the style and educate of retarded chimpanzees than actual human beings. Its a bar fight out there, ladies and gentlemen, and if you dont take the opportunity to step on the neck of one of your pears, you’re really not putting much effort into making the most of this game.

Badgers? We Don’t Need No Steenkin’ Badgers!

June 8, 2008 somethingawful.net

Corbet:

This is what happens when bleeding edge raiders get bored farming the same content for 8+ months. I doubt anyone at Blizzard really cares - you can’t expect Blizzard to release content that fast to keep up.

Saepiroth:

Honestly, you can lay a portion of the blame for the current culling of raid guilds on the way they decided to develop the badge and arena system. At it’s most basic, the trouble is that they gave access to raid-quality gear without raid-quality effort.

It Isn’t An Acronym, Okay?

April 15, 2006 via email

Raph Koster:

Short for spec_proc (special procedure), which is a bit of code triggered to cover a special case that the default code doesn’t handle.

In the older muds there was almost no variation between what a given object could do. For example all weapons used the weapon type, then you could specify damage type (was it a sword or a mace), damage ranges, and so on.

To get the weapon to do anything special, you had limited choices. Depending on the architecture, you could attach a spell to be cast, or could attach a script if the code supported it. In the codebases that Brad & co. played, the devs could not script, so the codebase allowed a pointer to a special hardcoded procedure to be entered in the weapon data.

“Proc” is almost entirely EQ slang… Even in the muds, it wasn’t that widely used because only some codebases used the term. It took EQ publicizing the inherited term to make it common knowledge.

heres a graff

September 16, 2005 forums.worldofwarcraft.com

Hammadore:

RARE Blackwing Basin Stratigese

u need 2 open it up with 2 rogues. u put the rogues up wehere the mobs r but not 2 close, and make sure that they r stealthed too, or the mobs will attack them

when u put the rogues there u look at the mobs. r there 2 or 5 of them? heres a graff

1 2 3 4 5
rogue rogue

so the rogue left side sapps the #1 or #2 mobs maybe both if hes lucky and the right mob sapps the #4 or #5 mobhs and then u got 1 mob left and its easier 2 fite it that way cuz u can kill 1 at a time and they cant gang up on u.
example: if u fight 2 mobs its hard. but if u fight 1 mob its easy. so u fight 1 at a time until they died.

From The Department Of Delusion

January 31, 2008 www.hideinshadows.com

Klaus:

Why Shadowbane didn’t make billions:

I am a little tired of people referring to Shadowbane’s lack of commercial success, and using it as an argument for why games with a heavy focus on PvP won’t work, so I am gonna make a brief statement:

STFU!

Shadowbane was a great concept and a great game, and the only reason it wasn’t a massive success, was buggy and outdated technology.

If Shadowbane had released without all the client crashes, with a better server solution and with a graphical engine that could compete with other games released at the time, it would have been a HUGE hit.

And on that note - they are wiping all the Shadowbane servers and all the characters, and re-releasing two new servers in the very near future. It’s free, and I am gonna go play it with some friends, to hopefully re-experience some of that magic a fresh Shadowbane server brings - for probably the last time.

Let the ganking and smack talking commence!

UCM: The Uniform Commercial Macro

July 1, 2004 ac.turbine.com

Ibn is Alex Beckers, AC1 Live Team

Ibn:

The following post is to consolidate frequently-asked questions regarding the following stated inappropriate behavior in the Asheron’s Call Code of Conduct:

Allowing your character to gain experience points by engaging in combat without being at the keyboard, ready to respond to an Administrator on demand (this activity is commonly called a “Combat Macro”). Logging off as soon as an admin appears (visible or invisible) or when an admin tries to speak with you will be taken into consideration in determining unattended combat macros. First time-combat macro offenses may result in a permanent ban from the game.
